Passports
& Visa Regulations
Nationals of
EU Member States - Citizens of other EU Member States, EEA (European
Economic Area) nations, the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand
do not require a visa to enter Hungary. Visitors are usually entitled
to stay for a period of up to 3 months (subject to satisfying Hungarian
immigration rules) or indefinitely for citizens of an EU Member
State.
A national identity
card is needed for entry into Hungary for citizens of Austria, Belgium,
Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finnland, France, Germany,
Greece, Holland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Malta,
Poland, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, Slovakia and Slovenia.
A passport is
required for entering Hungary for citizens from Denmark, United
Kingdom, Ireland, Iceland, Latvia, Norway and Sweden.
If you are not
an EU-member state citizen and wish to visit Hungary please check
the below list of countries, whose citizens (bearing valid national
passport) do not need a visa to enter Hungary for less than 90 days:
Andorra - Argentina
- Australia - Bolivia - Brazil - Brunei - Bulgaria - Canada - Chile
- Costa Rica - Croatia - Guatemala - Honduras - Hong Kong (HKSAR
passports only) - Israel - Japan - Korea, Republic of - Macao -
Malaysia - Mexico - Monaco - New Zealand - Nicaragua - Panama -
Paraguay - Romania - Salvador - San Marino - Singapore - Switzerland
- Uruguay - USA - Vatican State - Venezuela (tourists only).
Citizens of
the following European countries are also required to have visa
to enter Hungary: Albania, Belorussia, Macedonia, Moldavia, Russia,
Serbia and Montenegro, Turkey, Ukraine.
Children need
either their own passport or their own ID card or, in the lack of
them, they need to be registered in one of their parents' passport.
Contact your
local Hungarian Embassy or consulate before travelling as Hungarian
visa requirements are more fluid for other territories (and may
change according to socio-political factors in your country of origin).
A visa can be
purchased at a Hungarian consulate or foreign representation in
the country of residence. If there is no such mission there, foreigners
can turn to any other Hungarian diplomatic mission or consular post.
