Budapest - Transport - Major Airports in Hungary

Budapest Ferihegy International Airport (BUD)

Budapest Ferihegy (BUD) international airport is located on the E60 route 24 km south-east of Budapest city center (approx. 16 miles) and handles air traffic from a large number of major airlines. Within its three terminals the airport has excellent passenger facilities, including an array of banking facilities, bureau de change, cash machines (ATMs), restaurants, cafes, bars and a number of shopping options including tax-free.

Terminal 1 is open for low-cost airlines and Terminal 2 is divided into two, with Terminal 2A the departure and arrival point for flights of Malév Hungarian Airlines and Terminal 2B hosting all international carriers' flights, including some of the budget airlines.

If you want to rent a car on your arrival at Budapest, the main car hire firms have offices in the arrivals halls. These include Avis, Budget, National and Hertz.

For those not driving, the Airport Minibus will carry passengers between the two Ferihegy terminals or to and from any part of Budapest. It is very popular and provides excellent value for money. Reservations can be made by phone (+36-1) 296 8555, fax (+36-1) 296 8993 or in person at the airport at the arrival customs area or at the LRI Airport Passenger Service desk in the waiting area.

For more information visit the Budapest Airport Minibus website.

Otherwise, the municipal public transportation authority BKV operates every half hour the no. 93 bus which runs from Ferihegy 2 to Kobánya-Kispest underground terminal (the bus has the name of the terminal on it). Passengers need to buy their tickets before boarding the bus at the news stand in the waiting area.

It is advisable to choose one of the two options mentioned above, as travelling by taxi is much more expensive. Moreover private taxis (those not belonging to a registered company) are not to be recommended because charge unregulated prices.
